Candy Cane Cookies

Ingredients
  • 1 cup shortening or butter
  • 1 cup confectioner sugar, sifted
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon Almond extract
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon red food coloring
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
Directions
  • Pre-heat oven to375
  • Mix shortening, sugar, egg and flavorings thoroughly.
  • Add the flour and the salt to the fat mixture, mix until blended.
  • Divide the dough into 2 equal balls.
  • Blend the food coloring into one of the dough balls.
  • Roll into 4” strips using 1 teaspoon dough from each color onto floured board.
  • Twist two strips together to form the shape of a candy cane.
  • Bake 9 minutes until lightly brown.
