Mother Fitz’s Sour Cream Cake

I found this recipe written by my Great Grandmother Fitzgerald. It was inserted in Grama Davis’s favorite Larkin Cookbook. This is an old recipe, very few modern recipes crack the eggs in a cup and top with sour cream.

Ingredients
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • Sour cream
  • 1 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Directions
  • Lightly grease a loaf or layer cake pan.
  • Pre-heat oven to 350˚f.
  • Break 2 eggs in a cup and fill with sour cream.
  • Pour the mixture into a bowl and add the sugar.
  • Sift together the flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt.
  • Add the vanilla and mix well.
  • Bake the cake until the toothpick comes out clean.
