Shrimp and Sausage Boil

This classic shrimp boil contains fresh shrimp, potatoes, corn and sausage, all boiled in a flavorful broth. An complete meal in one pot that's perfect for feeding a crowd!
Ingredients
  • Hot Italian link or Andouille sausage

  • 1 pound (16/20) Raw Shrimp, Peeled w/ tails on

  • 4 quarts of water

  • 1 large red onion

  • 1 pound small red potatoes

  • 4 ears of corn, husked, cut into thirds or fourths

  • 12 Mushrooms

  • 2 lemons

  • 1 bulb of garlic (whole head)

  • 1/2 bunch of fresh Parsley

  • Pinch of Thyme

  • 2 teaspoons Old Bay or

  • Chesapeake Bay Seasoning

  • 6Tablespoons melted butter and 2 Tablespoons oil

  • Yields 4 –6 servings

Directions
  • In a sauce pot par-boil the Italian sausage until the sausage is partially cooked. Drain and set aside to be grilled later.
  • In a large pot, insert a colander and fill the pot with cold water.
  • Bring water to a boil, adding the onions, 1 lemon, parsley and the garlic bulb. Simmer for 20 to 30 minutes.
  • Grill the sausage for extra flavor, until the internal temperature is 145˚f. Let rest 10 minutes and slice in half or thirds.
  • Once the water flavorful aroma, begin to build the boil; adding the vegetables, sausages and shrimp by following the order and length of time below.
  • Begin with potatoes cook 10 minutes.
  • Add the corn cook for 5 minutes.
  • Add the sausage and cook for 3 minutes.
  • Add the fresh mushrooms and the Shrimp cooking for 3 minutes or until the shrimp turns pink in color.
  • Lift out the colander, drain the broth and set aside for dipping.
  • In the pot melt the butter and the oil, season with the Old Bay or Chesapeake Bay dry spice and freshly squeezed lemon juice.
  • Add all the solid foods together, toss and pour over the shrimp in the bowl.
